Under the Microscope

Nov 21,2014 by Edulab

As we mentioned in one of our previous blogs microscopes are iconic pieces of laboratory equipment that have aided in many of the most important scientific discoveries ever made. Microscopes also have the power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, and often the closer you look the more amazing things can appear. So here we  get up close and personal with some everyday objects and open your eyes to the wonders of a hidden world.

Food

Whilst vegetables typically aren’t all that amazing to look at, you might be surprised about what a closer look at these can reveal. For example, did you know that under a microscope broccoli florets look remarkably like tulips?

Microscopes also have the power to make aero chocolate, depicted in the image below, appear even more appealing.

Alcohol

Microscopes have also revealed the hidden wonders of alcohols, which when viewed under a microscope showcase a range of fantastic psychedelic patterns and are transformed into visually stunning pieces of art. Each beverage appears different, reflecting the unique combination of molecules from which they are made. One of the most interesting is undoubtedly vodka, which when viewed under a microscope is bursting with an array of colourful patterns and designs.

Sand

Sand is another fantastic example of how microscopes can transform our view of something. Whilst at first glance sand may appear rather uniform and boring, you’ll be amazed by what microscopes can reveal about sand. Indeed when viewed under a microscope, sand reveals a world of beautifully coloured stones, small shells, and shards of crystal which together make up sand.

Hopefully this will have inspired you to discover some of the amazing hidden wonders out there that can be revealed by microscopes for yourself, and who knows what delights you may uncover. Here at Edulab we are an expert supplier of science equipment including microscopes to meet your requirements. For more information please do not hesitate to contact us, and a member of our friendly team will be happy to help you with your enquiries.
